Things to do this Weekend July 2-3, 2011

Okay I can't find anything that I can suggest you to do and visit this weekend. It's because just like last week it's raining hard again. It's too early to tell if it will rain hard on Saturday or Sunday, so I will just tell you what is my plan this weekend. Stalker (as if there is) you know where to get me.

Since Transformer 3 is already showing, maybe hubby and I will check it out. I can see a long line at the Cinema as early as now, so maybe I will book a ticket online as early as now.

I bought a voucher to a buffet dinner at the Diamond Hotel, and we will use it this weekend. I am excited to experience dining at one of the 5 stars Hotels here at the Metro, watch out for my food review afterwards.

Even though I want to watch Cirque du Soleil’s “Varekai” at the Grand Chapiteau Tent at the Quirino Grandstand, I'd have to pass it up because it's just too expensive for us. But for those who have moolah, don't miss this once of a lifetime show happening here. The show is up until July 8th only so better buy your tickets now!

Ren will be having his 1st Master Test on Monday so beside the things mentioned above we will surely spend the weekends to review his work at school, wish us luck here!

As early as now I try to teach my son to be independent!

At school, Ren is being taught to be independent, but I know he will learn it better if it will be followed up at home consistently. I know he is still very young to be independent and of course I don't want him to do everything he needs to do. If he doesn't ask for help, I will surely miss it too. I will miss the way he looks at me when he wants me to do something for him and his touch when he caresses you.

But I want him to learn that he can do something without relying to adults even how simple it is. Doing this will help him to build his confidence and self esteem. We usually celebrate things that Ren learned like wearing his shorts, taking off his shirts and the one we loved the most was when he learned how and where to pee properly.

Doing everything for your young ones because you love them so much may result to a child's weak character. The child may become fearful and anxious most of the time. This child may not trust his own feeling and decision because someone is deciding for him.

Ren is still on the training ground and we still have lots of things to do. I am not rushing things and wishing him to be at his own soon but I am preparing him now for the a real word. We are still enjoying him and we are very happy every time he makes something new for himself.

Like for today, he helped me cook our dinner. I asked him to help me pull off the malunggay leaves from it's stem and also he helped me put water in the pan.

We trained Ren to also eat anything that is served at the table, that is why he knows how to eat veggies. He already knows how to use the spoon but we are still on the training process for him to use the fork.

Also, he can now pour water from the pitcher to his glass. After eating, I usually ask him to help me wash the dishes with which he happily comply since he loves playing with water.

I know even though he doesn't say it, he is proud of himself after doing the simple tasks that we ask him to do.

Who hates Mondays?

I don't go to the office anymore and that everyday is always the same for me, so either it's Mondays or Fridays it's all the same. But I know for some, going to work means going to hell and that they say that the workplace is among the top sources of stress. Do you agree?

Well, since tomorrow is Monday and that means it's the start of a long working week again here are some useful tips you may want to consider to lessen your office stress.

  • Consume your break time by having a little nap, or listen to soft music to relax you. You may also go outside the office and have some walk.
  • Be friendly and talk to your office mates.  I do this every day when I was still working and I tell you, this is very effective.  It's like having a confession at the church when your really down.
  • If you are forgetful just like me and you think this is one of the things that stresses you then make sure to write important messages in a small notebook and look at them after wards.
  • I know we love multi tasking, but sometimes this can cause trouble especially when you can't finish any task.  That is why it's advisable to take one task at a time.
  • On the other hand, if you are stuck on a boring, repetitive or meaningless task, why don't you ask for a new one.  Maybe the boss is just waiting for you to come to him and that it may be the tool for your salary increase.
  •  Be grateful! Not everyone has a job so be thankful that you at least have one to be able to support yourself or your family.
  • Be optimistic.  If you are given a lot of jobs think of it as a challenge and an additional experience that can be written in your resume to make you ready for a bigger responsibility and to apply for a higher position in the future.

Don't worry, days are coming by so fast and that you will not notice it will be Friday again.  BE HAPPY everyone!

The FREE Drypers Diapers has arrived!

The best things in life are FREE!

I'm glad there are some sites out there that give away FREE samples of their products to their customers. One site that I know who usually give away FREE things is the momcenter.ph

This month, one of their freebies is Drypers newborn diapers. Although I don't have a newborn baby, I still asked for the FREE sample because there are lots of newly born babies in our neighborhood. The mommies of these newborn babies were very happy when I gave the samples to them.  Next time, I will ask them how was their experience with it (okay now I am giving myself a job here)

Anyway, for those of you who want to receive updates and get FREE products from this site, why don't you join momcenter.ph newsletter or you could also like them in Facebook

The kid who seem to doesn't listen but he has the right answer!

I am referring to my son Ren here. He started going to a regular class last June 14th. I chose to enroll him in a Montessori class nearby since I like their curriculum.

Montessori style of teaching is child-centered that is so different from any traditional school (teacher-centered). The child is guided to make his own decisions. Led by his own passion, interest and innate ability to learn, he chooses his own work within a framework and structure set by the Teacher. The benefit of this Montessori method is that children learn independently, they are absorbing lessons at their own pace, and therefore not be stressed or bored.

Ren here standing with his classmates!

Parents are not allowed to enter the room. Ren has no problem with separation anxiety since he was trained at his therapy center before. The only problem the teacher told me is that Ren seems to doesn't listen to the lessons. He doesn't join his classmates when they are singing. He doesn't want to sit down when he is asked. He doesn't want to talk to anyone. I know he struggles with socialization that is why I asked one of his classmate (the serious and quite one) to be a model and ask Ren to sit down when needed. Yay, now I realized I give this kid some responsibility for my own son. Good thing besides the teacher, there is one assistant teacher that checks with kids. By the way, they are only 10 kids in the class. So, she is the one who takes care of Ren and other children who are fidgety like my son.

Last Thursday, while waiting at the classroom since it's raining hard we were also the only one left, Ren became the center of our conversations. I think Ren knows he is the one we are talking about, so he showed his teachers that they are wrong about him (about not listening). Ren sang their everyday song clearly and also the song about the 7 continents of the world which was only taught that very same day. He also identified separately the primary colors and the secondary colors, that made the teachers and I shocked.

The teachers said " I taught you were not listening?" and Ren just looked at them.

For the last days, I was depressed and sad with all the teachers complaints about him, but when he showed them that he can do the things what the other typical kids can do even without sitting or looking at them, then my anxiety was all gone.

Ren is really unique and I am very proud of him. I know we have a long way to go but with this development of him I believe and pray that REN CAN DO IT!

Things to do this Weekend June 25-26, 2011

Okay this is my very first article with my current project weekly post. Here are the things that you and your family may enjoy doing this weekend.

If you want to help Japan to recover and raise funds, Go to Build City at Shangrila Mall this weekend from 2 - 5PM. It is a Japanese Tradition to send 1000 ORIGAMI cranes as a wish of healing, hope, peace and long life. This project aims to make 1,000 paper cranes as a wish for Japan’s quick recovery and be able to raise funds to donate to Philippine Red Cross. Every P10 donation, a customer will get an origami paper to fold to be submitted to the Thousand Crane Project. The P10 donation, on the other hand, will be forwarded to the Philippine Red Cross Japan Relief Fund.

Post Father's Day Celebration at Fish and Co.  If your Dad was so busy that you haven't celebrated Father's day with him last week, here is your chance to make-up with him.  Why not treat him to a scrumptious meal at Fish and Co. and by doing so you will have a Gift Certificate worth P200.00 that you can use on your next visit.

Or if you want, you could catch Cirque du Soleil’s “Varekai” at the Grand Chapiteau Tent at the Quirino Grandstand - Rizal Park this June 22 up to July 8. Varekai is the story of a man as he plunges into the fantastic forest world called Varekai, located at the peak of a volcano.

Ticket Prizes: Php2700 - 10500
for more info click here: cirquedusoleil- varekai

Call on your friends and have a feast at Max's Restaurant Chicken All you can promo (for only P199 per head).  Noel and I checked it out last Saturday but we didn't have a chance to get in since the line is very long.  I advise you to go to any Max's Restaurant as early as 5 PM :)

There is also another Shoe event at the NBC Tent at the Fort.  There will be 100 booths of footwear from leading and online brands. I just hope they did not open the bazaar to VIP just like what happened to the CROCS event last time to be fair :)

It's Global Smurf Day this Sunday June 25th.  Different countries from all over the world will have their own activities. In the Philippines, SM Mall of Asia will host an afternoon of fun activities for the whole family at the Selecta Kid’s Universe area (where Little Archers is located).  Everyone is encouraged to come in their best blue outfits, have free wacky souvenir photos taken at the photo booth, play games, have their faces painted, and watch the trailer and clips from the movie on Sony Bravia screens.

If the gloomy weather hinders your plan to go outside this weekend, then you can still cuddle at your bed with your kids and love one.

HAPPY WEEKEND EVERYONE!

My weekly post schedule (wish me luck!)

It's been a long time since I have posed funny things, great recipe ideas or things that are really out of this world. Honestly, I miss doing it, that is why I decided to come up with a weekly schedule of my post. I hope I can do it (crossing my finger) but I want to post everyday so I am making this ahhh... project???

This is my prospective weekly post schedule:

Monday- Since it's the start of the working week, I am thinking on posting funny things to lighten up my day and also yours as well.

Tuesday or Wednesday - I will post my grocery pick, this will be an honest review of food and drinks that we ate that week: for the drink that would mostly be coffee I think nyay!

Thursday or Friday - Things that I would like to do this weekend post or things to watch out for!

Saturday and Sunday - Life Thoughts and Personal things

I think this is a nice list. I hope I can have ample time to do it, wish me luck!

Levy as a teacher?

7 years ago I received my College Diploma from the first school exclusive for women here in the Philippines. Although I am a degree holder I ended up being a plain housewife but I don’t regret being one. I am just thinking now, if only I chosen education as my course, then maybe I can have my own preschool or play school while I stay at home.

I know how expensive preschools are right now since my son is already at this stage, that is why this idea caught my mind. I wanted to study again and be a licensed teacher, and if I have enough capital I will build my own preschool . I already looked for vocational courses at Tesda but I couldn’t find one. Besides, I think if ever I will get a slot to any school I will not have the time to go on and forth since I am the one who will fetch and accompany my son to school everyday.

But, I remembered that one of our local celebrities here, Ms. Sharon Cuneta continued schooling through online degree programs from University of the Philippines. It was opend by UP to provide a chance of getting education to individuals that aspire for higher education and improve their qualifications but who are unable to take advantage of traditional modes of education.
I have checked the courses available, but there is no online degree program for education but I found one course that interest me so I think I will enroll myself here on the coming months. I just need to come up with P5,500 that includes the following: PhP100 - Application/ Registration Fee, PhP5,000 - Course Fee and PhP400 – miscellaneous fee.

I don’t know if UP is the only university that offers online courses. If you want to know more, you can navigate here to find colleges that offers online courses: http://studentaid2.ed.gov/gotocollege/collegefinder/advanced_find.asp

Ren's appointment for flu vaccine gone wrong!

Yesterday, Ren was scheduled for his influenza vaccine. I called for an appointment 2 days ago to avoid the hassle of waiting. The doctor's assistant confirmed our schedule a day before so I taught everything will happen smoothly.

This immunization of Ren was not done by his pediatrician since I got a voucher which is 50% off of the regular price for this influenza or flu vaccine (only P750 from the original price of P1,600). We woke up early yesterday to prepare for our trip. The place is not hard to reach, but since it's Saturday few people are going to Makati (the clinic is located around that area) the passenger jeep needs to be filled up first before it will begin the trip. This is one of the disadvantage if you don't have your own car.

When we reached the clinic the doctor is not there yet. Ren being the hyper boy that he is, can't find anything to do while waiting. He is fascinated with cars and it's a good thing there is a car magazine in the shelves. While he browsed through the magazine I saw this new design of KIA Picanto.

this is Ren looking for things to entertain himself

Since I want to have our own car but because we don't need it that much and we still don't have budget to buy one, I am just contented to look at cars whether at the streets or in magazines. When I saw a car that I like, I add it in my wishlist that is why I am familiar with the KIA Picanto's old design.

The new design of KIA Picanto is improved than the old one. It looks like a preschooler now from being a baby when it first came out.

the old model Kia Picanto

the new model Kia Picanto

Well maybe next year or so we will have one, I just need to prioritize some things first and besides, I still don't know how to drive and repair a car.

Anyway, back to the immunization schedule, we were already waiting for almost an hour when the nurse called me privately and told that the Doctor will not make it. It is because an unexpected thing happened to one of his patient at the other hospital and that he said he can't leave him.

I was mad when I heard it since like my son, I also don't like waiting. But when I walked out the clinic I realized that what if I am the patient of the doctor at the other hospital? I tried to put my shoes in his situation so after a few minutes my hotheadedness cooled down and went ahead to our next destination smiling.

Be amaze with Wahmaholic Blog Designs!

A blog represents it's owner identity. If you want to be unique and to stand out, then going for a blog make over is the wisest thing to do. But in doing so you would have to spend some money of course but that's what makeover is all about. Even celebrities go through a total make-over but once people love their looks then everything they have spent for the make over will be doubled and tripled since advertisers will surely get them.

This can also be true about a blog. A blog, even how nice an article is, if the theme looks boring then people will just glance at it for a second and maybe never come back. If you want people to remember your blog then do not only create interesting articles but also you should enhance the looks of your blog since as what they say "first impressions last".

That is why if you want to be recognized in the blogosphere, then I suggest you to go and consider a blog makeover but you have to choose someone that is already established in this field.

Kaye Mendez of Wahmaholic Blog Designs is one of the best blog designer that we have now. A blog that was designed by her is equaled to a celebrity that wore a gown made by top designers like Rajo Laurel, Paul Cabral or Inno Sotto.

You don't believe me? then check out what her clients say about her designs HERE!

Her portfolio will make you awe, that is why when she announced that she will have a JUNE BLOG MAKE OVER contest I did not hesitate to join since she will be giving away a full Blogger or WordPress blog makeover worth up to $150.

I know this blog of mine needs a fabulous make over and I am begging you to please help me win. All you need to do is to LIKE WAHMaholicBlogDesigns in Facebook and post this in their wall:  "I was referred by Levy".

This really means a lot to me and I will appreciate all your help.

Use Human Nature products for a GREENER environment!

Who said organic items is only for the rich and privileged? I know organic items are so expensive which is why even though the "masa" wants to use and try it, they can't. Good thing I found out about Human Nature items. They are the only company that makes genuinely natural and safe products that is so affordable to every household and is 100% free of harmful chemicals.

Human Nature is PRO-PHILIPPINES which means that all their products are made in the Philippines.

Human Nature is PRO-POOR, as I've mentioned, they sell their items a lot cheaper than other organic items out there which means middle income earners can afford them. They are also partnered with Gawad Kalinga and other NGOs and they also develop a world-class farming community nationwide which help multiply the income of our beloved farmers.

Human Nature is PRO-ENVIRONMENT, again I've mentioned that their products are 100% FREE from harmful chemicals. It's all natural and organic that is why it will not harm our soil and water.

Every time my family and I are using Human Nature products I feel proud. I know that by buying and using Human Nature products I am helping other people and the environment. I am 100% confident to let my son use their shampoo or even their citronella bug spray because I know they are safe and natural.

I will post reviews on the Human Nature items that I have used next time so stay tuned.

But for now, If you love nature just like me then why don't you VOTE FOR GREEN at M&M VOTE and WIN promo and let's shout to the world that Filipinos are GREEN minded errr let me re-phrase.... let's shout to the world that Filipinos wants a GREENER CLEANER environment!

Who knows, just by voting you might be the lucky winner to take home $1000. So CLICK:

CONTEST UPDATE: For BLOGGERS

My LEVYtate contest will ends on June 30. As of now I already received 26 entries and only 12 out of the 26 entries is already done with the post with the JUMP shot picture and answer. Since it's raining hard this days and I think it will be hard on your part to do the jump shot, I am revising the mechanics.

1. You still need to do the number 1-5 to be counted in this contest (see it HERE)

2. You still need to post the answer to the question: "What are the things/situations that would make you feel like levitating?" but if you don't have a picture, you will be eligible to win ONLY on the 2nd Prize up to 3rd and consolation prize:

2nd Prize: $100 CASH
3rd Prize: $50 worth of blog makeover from WAHMaholic Designs
Consolation Prizes:

3. ONLY those who have a Jump Shot pictures and post (that is only 12 as of now) will be included in the list to be judged for the GRAND PRIZE which is $200 CASH. That is for the effort!

And the others who will not win the GRAND PRIZE that have jump shot photos, will all be included for the 2nd prize category and so on.

NO MORE JUDGING of entries for the $100 give-away, all the name of contestants will be drawn and picked up and it will be witnessed by some selected people not related to me.

I think this is easier. No more barriers for you not to join this contest since having the Jump Shot pictures was the only thing this contest makes it hard for some (as what I heard).

Ecofriendly vehicle: the E-Trike at the Fort!

I went to the Fort last June 10 for the Crocs Mega Sale Event (read related story here). I am glad that the security guard told me that I could ride the E-trike to reach NBC tent, since I was at Market Market and it's 5 blocks away from NBC tent.

It was my 1st time to see an E-trike. This is the best alternative to Taxi I guess since it's a LOT cheaper (a ride only cost P5.00 at the Fort area) and it's noise free and most of all it's Eco Friendly since it doesn't use Gas, it only uses P20.00 of electricity for a whole day of operations (imagine that!).

An E-trike can accommodate 8 persons plus the driver. If only this project will be pushed through all over the Philippines then we can be assured that we will have less pollution and we will have a bluer sky in the future. I am even planning to buy one when I win the Lotto :)

Go Green, and have a chance to win $1000

I so love the color Green, isn't it obvious in this blog? My header is green, the background color is green and the blog owner has green blood (just kidding)

I love the color GREEN so much because it is so relaxing to the eyes and it has a calming effect on me.  I am also into green-living nowadays: I have put plants in front of our house to minimize carbon dioxide, we also don't use plastic bags whenever we are shopping and I am using organic items in the house. When I spend a lot of time in front of the computer, with just one look at anything green makes my tired eyes feels refreshed.

That is why when M&M’s® launched its Vote & Win campaign, to look for the most popular M&M’s® Candy date of course I would Go for color GREEN and nothing else.

Look at the eyes of Ms. Green, it's so calm and relax right?  That attitude is so Pinoy! even though we face a lot of challenges, this 3rd World country still battles it with a smile and faith in God!  That is why color GREEN I think is the color that represents us being Filipino.

By the way, here is the best part! VOTE for Ms. Green and you may have a chance to win the grand prize— US$1,000  and up to 450 bi-weekly prizes including a set of five M&M’s® keyrings and an M&M’s® dispenser.

CLICK the VOTE NOW button below!

This Contest runs from 1 June 2011 to 15 July 2011 only.

Nurse scrubs should be comfortable!

I don’t usually go to the hospital thank God, and when I do it’s just because I need to see someone. I was surprised to see that some of the nurses now were wearing hot pink scrubs, all my life, I taught they were only allowed to wear white uniforms.

I must admit a good uniform is one of the criteria I made on choosing the school I went to in college. I don’t have that feminine figure compared to other girls, so I don't want a uniform that is so hard to manage. Having a monthly period is expected for young girls so I've chosen a uniform that can possibly hide blood stains if ever there will be a surprise monthly visit. I know other girls will agree with me here.

It’s nice to know that the evolution of clothes trend is based on the needs and wants of those wearing it and not just what looks good in the eyes of the people. In the hospital for instance, if nurses wear tight skirts just like what I usually saw in old movies, then moving fast will be hard for them considering the number of patients now compared way back then. It’s nice to know that the new breed of nurses can now wear rubber shoes or even running shoes to be more comfortable and loose scrubs pants instead of tight skirts.

For medical students out there, either men or women who is looking for medical scrubs for sale that is trendy and with high quality that will sure be envied by your colleagues, then check out http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/ . For sure they will have all the things that you need.

High Quality promotional items need not be expensive

I have realized lately that personalized or promotional items are so in nowadays. I knew this because my husband who is a graphic artist always make logo designs for some companies here and abroad that is to be used for t-shirts, bags, pens to name a few for his online sidelines.  Even our group - the Pinay Mommies Community wanted to have a our own t-shirts with logo someday.  We need this so that if we will have a get together we will be easily recognized that we belong to the group.

While stumbling online, I passed by this site named Branders.  I checked out their promotional items and their prices is surprisingly lower compared to other sites that sell the same items out there.  I think their items are 20% lesser than their online competitors.  One great example is this item:

Jockey® Essential Ringspun Pique for Ladies

BRANDERS price:
12 (min)      48              72                  144              288
$17.54      $15.63        $14.65         $13.48         $12.69

OTHER site price:
12                48            72               144                288
$20.25      $15.95     $14.95        $13.75          $12.95

Branders and other sites I have researched have the same suppliers, so you can be assured that the quality of the products are as high as the other companies out there.  Branders also give away FREE samples if you want to check the items and the quality for yourself.

I was surprised to know that Branders have their own office here in the Philippines besides having one in California and also in China.  This realization makes me even more confident to buy some things from them since I can easily go to their office if I wanted to check out any other things that they have to offer, or even if I have some questions, and complains I know I will be taken cared off by one of my country men here.

So, if you need some promotional items be it be for a fund raiser, company giveaways like customized bags or just for your own personal use, then why don't you check out Branders.com

Looking back, sharing my postpartum experience!

For the new moms out there, I just want to share my experience after my unexpected early delivery of my son. I want to share this because everything I expected to happen did not happen when my due date of delivery came in advance. I hope you will learn some lessons from this short story of mine.

3 years ago, I delivered a bouncing baby boy at Manila Doctors Hospital. My husband just texted my boss and other office mates to tell that I am on my way to the delivery room and that they will not see me for the past two months. I haven't filed my vacation leave yet since it is still too early for the expected date of my delivery. Everything happened so fast. Yes we already have a baby's cloth, mittens, covers, bed, stroller etc. unfortunately all the things I have mentioned was not washed yet since we are not expecting that the baby will come early. My sister in law, while I am already in labor and experiencing so much pain, got all my sons new clothes and washed them all. My neighbor, who has a 4 months old baby girl lent us her daughter's cover up.

While I am already at the hospital, my mom texted my aunt who is in the province to go back to Manila ASAP to clean the entire house while we were still at the hospital. I thank God my Aunt and my mom was there to help me since I didn't know that giving a baby's bath is not that simple as I thought it was. Also I am grateful they were there to take care of my son while I slept during the day. They where also the one who cooks nutritious foods so that I will have a healthy breast milk to give to Ren.

Looking back, I can't imagine myself if I will be all alone during my postpartum. Without the help of these people I don't know what will happen to me and to my baby. So, for new moms out there here are some advices from me:

1. Always be prepared - I already bought clothes of my baby but did not wash them thinking that my due date is still far which makes me still unprepared for it.

2. Clean the house or baby's room - Since I was still working even though my tummy is already big, I don't have time to clean the house thoroughly. And since I am not expecting that my baby will go out early I didn't ask someone to clean it for me. So, it's better to clean the house or baby's room always but it doesn't mean it should be you, ask your husband or someone else to do it.

3. Look for people that will give you an extra hand - as much as I want to be always at my baby's side, I still need to get lots of sleep since I am always awake during the night because I need to breast feed the baby. So, having someone to take care of the baby during day time is really a big help.

4. Enjoy Motherhood but still don't forget your hubby - I am guilty that at the first few weeks of my son in the house, I am so attached to him that I almost forgot I have a husband to attend to also. So, having time together that just you and your husband for a date will not make you a bad mom.

5. Don't forget to take care of yourself - You will be able to take care of your son more if you are happy, stress and worry free. That is why proper exercise, a healthy diet and some salon time is quite needed to freshen a new mom.

Drinking too much is bad for you!

Yup drinking too much alcohol is really bad for you. They weren't joking when they put the warnings on the ads "Drink Moderately". Don't believe me? Just see these several proofs for yourself. :)
