Missing them

It’s been 5 years when my mother in law died. After a year of her loss, my father in law also passed away. But until now we can’t overcome the grief of losing them.

I really loved my parents in law; they have treated me just like their real daughter. I remember when I was still in college; my cell phone was confiscated by my professor. It’s because during our exam one of my classmates phone rung, and since nobody wants to admit who's cell phone it was my professor confiscated all our cell phones. And we can only get it back if we will bring our parents or guardian at the Dean’s office. At that time, my mother don’t know that I already have a boyfriend and the cell phone was a gift from him. That’s why I am so afraid to tell her what happened. I ask Noel (he was only my boyfriend then) to help me. What we did was to ask his father to act like my guardian, and without any hesitation he agreed to do it. I am so thankful to him, my friends and classmates knew that he was my boyfriends’ father and that they were all amazed that I have the strength to bring him to the school.

My mother in law was also a very kind woman. On the day of my graduation, she gave me her old purse and a bracelet (unfortunately I lost it, and I hate myself for that up to this day)

I really missed them; they did not even saw my son. I discovered that I am pregnant after a year of my father’s in law death. My son really looks like him. I hope my husband and I can be as good parents as they were.

I know they are very happy in the place wherever they are right now and I believe they are still watching over us.

Unlike others, who hate their parents in law. Mine is really different, I loved them so much and I am so blessed to have them.

What do you prefer women/men that are clever yet ugly or beautiful but jerk?

ugly betty

For me, I prefer men with brain over men that are handsome yet jerk. It is because handsome men are too vain while men that are bright will be able to provide for his family. I remember when I was still in High school in Alabang, I was envied by my friends for having a handsome suitor (although I'm not that beautiful). I am even ashamed to go out with him since I look like his maid (self pity ΓΌ ) The problem was, I don't like talking to him since he can't relate with me. That's why I dumped him.

It's good that my husband is in the middle, He's not as handsome as Tom Cruise or Piolo Pascual but not that ugly also. He graduated with honor but he's not a nerd type.

I belong to the 75% of women that has the same insight. This was based by a survey made by OnePoll.com. While 10% said that they would go for a good-looking guy rather than a clever one because the "sex would be better".

On the other hand responses from men were completely opposite. Based on the survey 50% of men will rather go for good looking girls because it was important to impress their friends. Nearly 80% of the respondents said that they would be intimidated by a clever girl.

The Woman Who Can’t Forget

Do you still remember what you had eaten for breakfast yesterday? How about two days ago? If you remember, then you have a pretty good memory - but what if you could remembering everything you have seen and experienced throughout your life in detail as if it was happening right now? Sound like one of the Character from Heroes, but there is really such a person: meet Jill Price, the woman who simply could not forget.

"The three UC Irvine scientists who studied her decided that her case deserved its own name—hyperthymestic syndrome, academic Greek for "exceptional memory"—and it’s not hard to see why.

"I come prepared with a stack of questionnaires, and when we return to her house, Price is kind enough to let me administer my tests, easily blowing through the first few. I ask, for example, if she can tell me some dates of famous accidents and airline crashes; she’s all but unstoppable. She instantly retrieves from memory the exact dates of the explosions of space shuttle Challenger and Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. She remembers not just that September 25, 1978, was when a PSA flight crashed in San Diego but also that the jet collided with a Cessna. She can go in either direction, disaster to date or date to disaster. When I say "January 13, 1982," Price has no trouble recalling the Air Florida flight that plummeted into the Potomac.

According to McGaugh’s Neurocase article, Price is even more astounding on the events of her own life. At the scientists’ behest, for example, she recalled—without warning and in just 10 minutes—what she’d done on every Easter since 1980. "April 6, 1980: 9th grade, Easter vacation ends. April 19, 1981: 10th grade, new boyfriend, H. April 11, 1982: 11th grade, grandparents visiting for Passover .."

Bunion- what's this?

As I've said in my previous post I have a bunion in my left foot. I don't even remember how I ever got this. Every time I am wearing stiletto shoes (when I was still working) my feet will sore and it's really painful. Then I noticed that the big toe in my left foot leans toward the second toe, rather than pointing straight ahead.

But what really causes bunion? I found an answer in footphysicians.com

Bunions are most often caused by an inherited faulty mechanical structure of the foot. It is not the bunion itself that is inherited, but certain foot types that make a person prone to developing a bunion.

Although wearing shoes that crowd the toes won't actually cause bunions in the first place, it sometimes makes the deformity get progressively worse. That means you may
experience symptoms sooner.

I'm glad to know that there are treatments available, here are some that I've found:

Padding. Pads placed over the area of the bunion can help minimize pain. You can get bunion pads from your foot and ankle surgeon or purchase them at a drug store. Medications. Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen, may help to relieve pain.

Injection therapy. Although rarely used in bunion treatment, injections of corticosteroids may be useful in treating the inflamed bursa (fluid-filled sac located in a joint) sometimes seen with bunions.
  • Changes in shoewear. Wearing the right kind of shoes is very important. Choose shoes that have a wide toe box and forgo those with pointed toes or high heels which may aggravate the condition.
  • Activity modifications. Avoid activity that causes bunion pain, including standing for long periods of time.
  • Icing. Applying an ice pack several times a day helps reduce inflammation and pain.
  • Orthopedic devices. In some cases, custom orthopedic devices may be provided by the foot and ankle surgeon.

New undo send feature on Gmail

Has this ever happened to you guys... You are writing an email and in your hurry, you hit the "send" button and then realize that it was accidentally sent to the wrong person. Well Google has now a fix for that, their new Undo Send feature for Gmail. Undo Send allows you to stop the delivery of any Gmail message within moments of sending it…and when we say "moments", we mean it. Messages are held in queue for only five seconds…so you better think quick!

To activate Undo Send, go to the Settings/Labs tab in Gmail, enable it, and you're set. Here is how it works: Once the feature is activated, an "Undo" link will appear (as shown in the picture below) next to every sent email confirmation. Wish you hadn't sent it? Click the link and it takes you back to the composing window and confirms the retrieval.
But remember…you've only got five seconds!

Most Powerful Celebrities via: Yes! Magazine

I know that it's already late to post about this. I first heard it last Saturday at Startalk. At that time, I didn't know the full list of people included, all I know is that Joey de Leon was in the Top 10. He even commented that
"for person to be called powerful he/she must gain the respect of the people, and that he should show integrity by not cheating."
I agree!

When I dropped by at Makoy's blog I saw the complete list. I was shocked to know that Willie Revillame was at Top spot. I don't have the April issue of Yes! Magazine yet so I really don't know the basis of this list. Per Makoy the list is based on salary, properties and influence to the entertainment industry. I've heard that Willie earns almost 40 million per month and that's equivalent to 1 million +++ per day. Wow wow weee! I hope I can earn even the 1% of this amount per day. He's even richer than Manny Pacquiao who's bringing honor and glory to the Philippines. I'm sorry to all the fans of Willie but sometimes I don't like his attitude towards his staff and co-host, I would say that he doesn't deserve that talent fee.

Here's the full list I grabbed from Makoy.

Entertainers Category:

1. Willie Revillame
2. Kris Aquino
3. John Lloyd Cruz
4. Robin Padilla
5. Marian Rivera

14. Sarah Geronimo
15. Toni Gonzaga
19. Bea Alonzo
20. KC Concepcion
21. Senator Bong Revilla
22. Manny Pacquiao
23. Ruffa Gutierrez

I love my Crocs sandals

I have a bunion in my left foot and it really hurts when I am wearing shoes. I can't stand for a long time because of foot ache and I can't walk long hours. Although flip flops gives comfort, I can't wear them because I am ashamed of my cracked heels. That's when I tried to wear Crocs shoes, I have just bought one last December as a gift for myself (its called Alice). And it's really worth it, it's the most comfortable shoes I've ever had. It's even better than bare foot.

Crocs shoes
I bought one for my son (called-kids scutes) since he's still learning to walk alone. Although it's a little bit pricey, it will make him walk comfortably. Try it out for yourself.

I am a certified Heroes Fanatic!

My addiction in Heroes started when I had a first glance of it in my husband's Ipod Touch. It interested me because these ordinary people started discovering that they have super-powers. One of my favorite character was Hiro Nakamura from Tokyo Japan, his power is that he can control time and he can go back and forth from the past and the future. He's also a very funny guy. And there's Claire Bennet "the cheerleader" who is indestructible since she can rapidly heal herself. While Peter Petreli's power is to absorb the power of others without hurting and taking it away from them. The story is really amazing, you must see it to believe for yourself.

I wish I had a super power also since I think it's really cool. I also want to help others and able to save the world. But I think we don't need to have super abilities like the characters in the series to be a hero, what we only need is to believe in ourselves. We don't need to see and paint the future like Isaac Mendez since we are the one who are creating our own destiny.

I think we can all be heroes, in our family, in schools, or in our own community. Even though he's not yet talking, I believe that my 1 year old son sees me as his hero, because he believes that I will give him whatever he wants :) (and I hope I really can!) . While, I consider my mom as my hero since she did her best to provide us the education we need.

The song of Mariah Carey entitled "Hero" is really inspiring. We must do our best to be a hero in every way.

Set sail from San Francisco to Australia on a boat made from plastic bottles

Plastiki all plastic boat.jpg
British environmentalist David de Rothschild, author of Live Earth Global Warming Survival Handbook, met with the San Francisco Conservation Corps on Wednesday to talk about “Plastiki,” a boat approximately 60-ft high made from recycled plastic (except for the masts), which he’ll use to sail from San Francisco to Australia.

The boat is made up of about 16,000 plastic bottles and it's goal is “to raise awareness of the recycling of plastic bottles, which he says are a symbol of global waste.” says Rothschild.

He went on to say, “It’s all sail power. The idea is to put no kind of pollution back into the atmosphere, or into our oceans for that matter, so everything on the boat will be composted. Everything will be recycled. Even the vessel is going to end up being recycled when we finish.”

Stupid Collection Agent !!!

What will you do if you happen to answer a call that is not supposed to be for you, and the person he/she was looking for is not around? I think the right thing to do is to politely tell him that the person his looking for is not there at the moment and to ask him to call back later or the next day.

This is just what my husband did to a phone call from a collection agent yesterday. But the problem was the person on the other line accused him as a liar 'Cause he believed that the one he's looking for is just there and just don't want to talk to him. He even told my husband that he will be sued for trying to hide a person who has in debt with them, and this statement made him angry. He even told that person "Why don't you go ahead here to see for yourself!" then that's it his day was ruined. If these people talk like these even though the person they are talking to is not the one they need then what more if he's already dealing with the right person.

Will you call this as harassment? Of course it is, this agent was trained by their company to be rough and have a heart of stone to their client who can no longer pay their debt for any reason. And why wouldn't they be, they get extra income or commission for every client they successfully convince to pay their outstanding balance. I am not against them but I think using inappropriate words in dealing with clients is not the right way to convinced them to pay. It will only make the problem worse, because some of the people who are in debt with the bank are actually just afraid to deal with them since they know they will be humiliated for not paying. Some of this individuals still want to pay their outstanding debt but are too afraid to ask the bank to make their loan in installment since they can't pay the total amount in full. On the other hand, some people are really hiding since they don't have any plan to pay.

Just some word of advice, for the collection agent you can still be tough (cause you need to be one) but also you should be polite in talking with your client. I tell you that the client will be shy and would not want to entertain your call, but I hope you can give them a list of ways to help them pay their debt easier.

While, to those delinquent account holder, I know that some of you really don't want to abandon your debt but since we are encountering economic crisis and some unavoidable circumstances you have no means to pay your debt. But since it's a financial obligation, you must have the strength to face them and ask for their help. You will see that the bank will offer you many ways to pay your debt with them. Some banks give amnesty program that will help you pay your outstanding balance in installments. On the other hand, if you don't have any source of income and you're even struggling to have a meal in your table at the moment, then ask them that you are not forgetting your debt with them but you don't have the capacity right now. Tell them that once you can stand back on your feet you will pay them immediately. But make sure you will really do it. Put all this conversation in writing and convince them to agree with it.

What does one TRILLION dollars look like?

Have you ever wondered how much space does a Trillion dollars take up? Well, the people over at PageTutor made a comparison scale against an average tall man using Google Sketchup try to get a sense of what exactly a trillion dollars looks like.

The little pile on the ground is $1 million dollars (100 packets of $10,000).

While a measly $1 million looked a little unimpressive, $100 million on the other hand, fits neatly on a standard pallet.

And $1 BILLION dollars? You guessed it... fits on 10 pallets.

Next we'll look at ONE TRILLION dollars. It's a thousand billion. It's a one followed by 12 zeros.

Home remedy for dark underarms

Since its summer here in the Philippines, I often see people particularly women wearing sleeveless clothes. But it's really embarrassing to wear one if you have dark underarms. Pollution, residue, hair growth, hyper pigmentation and uses of high chemical deodorants and perfumes are some of the reasons of having dark underarms.

To get rid of dark underarms this are some home remedy solutions:

1. Lemon has the quality to remove dead cells of the skin and deliver a fresh look to it. Take a lemon slice and rub it gently to the dark underarm area. You can also use alum powder instead of deodorants to prevent your skin from darkening.

2. Milk is a useful ingredient for treating dark skin occurrence at armpits. Take a tablespoon of curd, 1 tablespoon of ground flour, a pinch of turmeric and tablespoon of milk. Mix all of them and apply the paste on dark underarms. Rinse with cold water when it dries.

3. Apply paste of sandalwood and rose water on your underarms. Wash it after 15 minutes with cold water.

4. Apply vitamin E oil on your armpits.

5. Wash the dark underarms with coconut oil.

6. Take juice of cucumber and mix it with turmeric powder. You can also add lime juice to enhance the capability of the mixture to fight against skin darkening underarms. Apply this mixture for half an hour and then, wash it away to get glowing skin underarms.

7. You can dry the peels of orange and grind it well. Now, mix some rose water and milk to make paste. Apply this scrub on your dark underarms and rub gently. Wash it with cold water.

8. Potato contains bleaching content. Potato juice is considered as an appropriate bleaching product for retaining the fairness of skin.
You can try a pumice stone for heavy-duty occasions. It also helps whiten your underarms by removing dead cells.

Other suggestions include using anti-fungal powder instead of anti-antiperspirants and cotton clothes instead of synthetics. Forget Shaving underarms, instead opt for waxing which not only helps to remove underarm hair, but it also acts as a exfoliater, as when you strip off the wax, along with hair it removes dead skin, as well.

If you tried all this tips and you can't see any improvement, then it's time for you to visit your dermatologist to give you faster result.

Shared scooters: an ingenious idea

This is a great idea by Anton Grimes of the University of New South Wales.

"The Link scooter system is designed as a modular transport solution that can be retrofitted to existing Streetscape Smart Poles. It allows users to hire a small lightweight electronic scooter from a hub and ride to the desired destination and then return the scooter to another hub, where it is recharged. The use of existing light poles reduces the cost of the unit and provides strong anchors that carry both telecommunications and power to the hub. The device was designed to suit the Sydney 2030 plan to reduce cars in the CBD and make the city more pedestrian oriented."

It can be folded up and attached to the lamp-post. If we could all learn to ride these things without getting ourselves or pedestrians killed the benefits are tremendous.

How to avoid getting dry hair this summer?

image via: flickr

Its summer once again. Most people nowadays are going to the beaches and to other cool areas like Baguio and Tagaytay. We can't avoid to expose our skin and hair from the sun. Yes, you can put sunblock lotion to your skin to avoid burn and getting it dry, but how about your hair? Here are few tips for us to avoid having frizzy, coarse hair.

  • Look for frizz-control shampoos and conditioners. The conditioner should be a 2-to-5 minute daily use treatment that you leave in for a few minutes and then rinse out. Just before rinsing, run a wide-toothed comb through your hair, getting out the worst of the knots. If your hair is really thick and coarse, comb it in the shower before you rinse out the conditioner.

  • Shampoo less. Use small amounts of conditioner instead; rinse hair well. You should notice a difference in a few days. Some shampoos contain harsh ingredients that suds beautifully but strip your hair of moisture. This added dryness can cause frizzles.

  • Once or twice a month use a good deep-conditioning or hot-oil treatment. You could also pick one night a week to leave in a conditioning treatment (make sure to sleep with a shower cap to avoid staining your pillowcase). Wash your hair in the morning.

  • Avoid standard-issue coloring products, which often come with ammonia. An ammonia-free product that contains moisturizers will not only pump up your color, it’ll fatten the hair shaft and impart some great shine.

  • Avoid blow-drying your hair. It is one of the worst things you can do to your hair--it increases the dryness and flattens waves or curls. The best way to avoid the problems of blow-drying is to let hair dry naturally. But if you don’t have the time, use a diffuser, which you can easily attach to your blow dryer available at certain beauty and drugstores. It emits heat evenly and with less intensity.

  • Apply an anti-frizz product before blow-drying and don’t hold the diffuser too close to your head--at least 4-inches away. And don’t ever comb your hair during or after blow drying. Lift it up in bunches if you need to get underneath and scrunch the curls with your fist while letting the diffused heat blow over your head. If you brush or comb it, chances are the frizz will return.

  • If your hair is coarse and curly, you probably need a strong daily conditioner plus an anti-frizz gel or pomade to control your curl. If it’s fine hair that frizzes instead of curling, you need a lighter conditioner and you should avoid pomades and gels in styling. Look instead for anti-frizz serums and mousses. Lightly squeeze it into your curls, being careful to avoid the scalp, so you don’t get a greasy look.

Electricity bills will surely increase this Summer because of the electric fans and air-conditioners which will me used frequently. Solution? Well, you don't need to eat dinner by candlelight to save. By following these few tips, you can cut your bills considerably.

1. Go Green

Try planting a tree or two around your house. It does not only cut off your annual heating and cooling costs, according to the DOE, but will also make your backyard more attractive. (Leafy trees can shield the house from direct sunlight, keeping temperatures down, while still permitting sunlight to hit your house during the winter months.)

Not interested in nurturing your green thumb? Simply pulling the shades (or drawing your curtains) can cut energy costs as well, says Mel Hall-Crawford, an energy efficiency expert at the Consumer Federation of America.

2. Keeping It Clean

Keeping your air-conditioning unit clean and in peak performance is another big money saver, says Maria Vargas, an Energy Star spokesperson at the EPA. And air-conditioning filters (regardless of whether you have central air or an individual unit) should generally be checked at least every month to see if they need cleaning or replacement. This is something you should be able to do on your own.

Another item to keep clean is your refrigerator's condenser coils, says Hall-Crawford. This will make the unit run more efficiently.

3. Get a Better LightBulb

Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) uses 75% less energy than traditional incandescent light bulbs, and last up to 10 times longer, according to the ASE. Be sure to look for CFLs with the Energy Star label, since these bulbs won't have any buzzing or humming problems, promises Energy Star's Reed. These bulbs now come in smaller sizes (called subcompacts) that can fit into any lamp, and they are available in more colors. According to the Alliance to Save Energy (ASE), replacing just four well-used 100-watt incandescent bulbs with equivalent 23-watt CFLs will save you $120 to $200 over three years.

4. Try using a Fan

A ceiling fan balances out a room's temperature, allowing you to turn down the AC and still feel cool.

5. Don't Forget to Unplug

Even when all of your home electronics are turned off, they many continue to consume energy. The main culprits: televisions, VCRs, DVD players, stereos, phones and microwave ovens. (Generally, anything that has a clock, a remote control or an on/off light falls into this category.) In fact, idle TVs cost U.S. consumers $600 million annually, or $5 per household, according to the EPA. One solution: Plug these items that you would want to be completely turned off into a power strip, and then use that as your on/off switch.

6. Watch out for Leaks

Be wary if you are using an air-condition unit, you might just be letting the cool air out. Leaky windows and ducts (which carry the air to the rooms in your home) are a few ways that the cool air can be lost, making your air conditioner work harder. "We have found that as many as 70% of ducts are installed with leaks," says Vargas. Having your ducts properly sealed and insulated could save you as much as 10% in energy costs, according to the EPA. So if you think your duct system is faulty, try to have it checked out by an HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) technician.
