Most Unfortunate Names

Every parent wants a special names for their children but some really are taking it a little too far. How would YOU like to go through life with a name like Terry Bull, Paige Turner, Justin Case, Barb Dwyer, Stan Still or Anna Sasin? Those are some of the names of real people uncovered in Britain.

Researchers also searched phone records in the US and found some unlikely names there too.

Spare a thought for Anna Prentice, Annette Curtain and Bill Board the next time you sign your name.

A spokesman for TheBabyWebsite.com said: "When the parents of some of those people mentioned named their children, many probably didn't even realize the implications at the time.

"Parents really do need to think carefully though when choosing names for their children.

"Their name will be with them for life and what may be quirky and fun for a toddler might be regretted terribly when that person becomes older or even a grandparent perhaps."

Unwritten Laws of Life

Murphy's First Law for Wives:
If you ask your husband to pick up five items at the store and then you add one more as an afterthought, he will forget two of the first five.

Kauffman's Paradox of the Corporation:
The less important you are to the corporation, the more your tardiness or absence is noticed.

The Salary Axiom:
The pay raise is just large enough to increase your taxes and just small enough to have no effect on your take-home pay.

Miller's Law of Insurance:
Insurance covers everything except what happens.

First Law of Living:
As soon as you start doing what you always wanted to be doing, you'll want to be doing something else.

Weiner's Law of Libraries:
There are no answers, only cross-references.

Isaac's Strange Rule of Staleness:
Any food that starts out hard will soften when stale. Any food that starts out soft will harden when stale.

The Grocery Bag Law:
The candy bar you planned to eat on the way home from the market is hidden at the bottom of the grocery bag.

Lampner's Law of Employment:
When leaving work late, you will go unnoticed. When you leave work early, you will meet the boss in the parking lot.

Dangers of Piercing!

Belly rings and tongue studs may go in and out of fashion, but one thing is constant: They carry a risk. A study found that 17 percent of college students with piercing suffered a medical complication such as infection or tearing. If you still feel the need to pierce a body part, be sure to follow these tips:

Pick a skilled practitioner- Bad piercing technique can result in injury, bleeding, and even nerve damage. warns Sue Abell, a physician at the child and adolescent Clinic in Washington.

Insist on a sterile setup- To avoid contracting HIV and hepatitis B and C, make sure your technician dons a new needle from the plastic in front of you.

Keep it clean- You're at risk for infection until the site heals, so wash your new piercing twice a day with antibacterial soap.

Food You've got to try: California Maki

I love California Maki. I crave everyday for this, I would like to try to make one but I'm afraid to do it by myself, since I'm not a good cook. I love the Masago (the orange eggs) so much. Whenever me and my husband dine out in some fancy Japanese restaurant we always order for this as our side dish. There are times that I even take-out some. I don't like to dip it in wasabi but my husband on the other hand, loves it. If you want to try it here's a video I've got from You Tube.

Father at the age of 13!

I was shocked when I heard this news. Alfie Patten is father at the age of 13. This young boy should be playing basketball or computer games not playing dad and having a child on his own. I can't even realize what will happen to the baby if he will be raised by too young parents. His girlfriend Chantele Steadman (15 years old) gave birth to 7lb. 3oz Maisie Roxanne last February 9. Yet, it was still good that they did not decided to abort the baby. He was by the way in the cover of Sun newspaper in Britain.

In the interview, Alfie said that he didn't think about how they would afford it. He don't really have pocket money, and his dad sometimes gives him 10 euro. He even said, " I know I'm young but I plan to be a good dad."

Maisie was conceived after Chantelle and Alfie — just 12 at the time — had a single night of unprotected sex. They found out about the baby when Chantelle was 12 weeks pregnant. But they kept it a secret until six weeks later when Chantelle’s mum Penny, 38, became suspicious about her weight gain and confronted her.

As a catholic christian, I still commend these teenagers for their courage in bringing the child into this world. But as a mother I still don't want this situation to happen to my son at a very young age. I just hope the baby will be fine.

Let us just pray that this little family can survive all the trials and troubles they will face in the next days of their lives.

Watch out for Flu virus!

My son (18 months old) just had his 2nd dose of the Flu vaccine yesterday. His pediatrician told me that the month of February is the season when most people got flu or influenza, so she must give the vaccine to my baby to prevent him to catch this virus. For those who are not aware of this disease let me explain what is Flu?

Flu or Influenza is a contagious disease caused by the influenza virus. It is often called a respiratory disease, but it affects the whole body. It is different from a common cold although they have similar symptoms, Flu is more dangerous. Typically a high fever (39-40'c), headache, severe cough, extreme fatigue, aches and pains are considered a Flu symptoms. Unlike a common cold, Flu causes severe illness and life threatening complications in many people. Flu is very contagious. A child can catch it from the air; from someone who is sneezing or coughing; from close contact with someone who has flu or from touching contaminated objects and transferring germs to his/her respiratory system. Children are among the people who are at an increased risk of developing life threatening complications if they catch flu, especially those who have diabetes, asthma and chronic heart, lung, kidney disease. The best thing to prevent this virus is to let every member of the family vaccinated. The efficacy of Flu vaccines has been clinically proven.

Prevention is better than cure, so get vaccinated NOW.

My favorite bread. Yummy!

Everytime we visit Robinsons Ermita Manila I see to it that we will drop by to the Breadtalk store to buy some of our all-time favorite Floss bread. My husband love the Hot Chick floss while I prefer the Cheese Floss. Although the line at the cashier is quiet long I'll still want to wait in line just to have a taste of their bread. Maybe they have put some spell or potion in the bread that most people become addicted to it (hehe!). This bread is really yummy, you must try it to believe.

What does love mean?

A group of researchers posted this question to a group of 4 to 8 year olds: "What does love mean?" The answers they got were broader and deeper than any grown-ups could have imagined.

1. "When my grandma got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandpa does it for her now all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love."
Rebecca - age 8

2. "When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouths."
Billy - age 4

3. "Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving Cologne and they go out and smell each other."
Kari - age 5

4. "Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French Fries without making them give you any of theirs."
Chrissy - age 6

5. "Love is what makes you smile when you're tired."
Terri - age 4

6. "Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK."
Danny - age 7

7. "Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My mommy and daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss."
Emily - age 8

8. "Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen."
Bobby - age 7

9. "If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate."
Nikka - age 6

10. "Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday."
Noelle - age 7

11. "Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends, even after they know each other so well."
Tommy - age 6

12. "My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night."
Clare - age 6

13. "Love is when mommy sees daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford."
Chris - age 7

14. "Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day."
Mary Ann - age 4

15. "When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you."
Karen - age 7

16. "Love is when mommy sees daddy on the toilet and doesn't think it's gross."
Mark - age 6

17. "You really shouldn't say "I LOVE YOU" unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget."
Jessica - age 8

My Shopaholic Confession

Hi! my name is Levy and I'm a shopaholic!

I grew up in a poor family, so when I was young, I can't buy anything I want since we had a limited budget. When I graduated from college and finally had a job of my own, I promised myself that I will buy things that I wasn't able to buy before. I see to it that half of my salary will go to the things I crave for and the other half is for my mother and siblings for food and other expenses. I spent my first salary for this Marithe Francois Girbaud bag that I really wanted. Came next salary, my all-time favorite pair of Guess Jeans was the next thing that I bought. There were times that I even enjoy extend my work hours in the office (sometimes even up to 5 A.M.) and I just think of overtime pay that the company will pay me and dream about the next item that I want on my list. But because of this, I became addicted to shopping. I felt happy when my officemates were envious with the new things that I had that they themselves can't buy. It came to a point where I can no longer control my purchases. I even had to cut down the money I am giving to my mother so that I could still buy all the things that I wanted.

One day, I received my very first credit card which was sent to my office for selected employees. I was so excited to use it that in just one day I had spent my maximum credit limit. I didn't realized the consequences it will bring me until I received the bills the following month. Because my salary is not enough to pay for the full amount that was due, I had only paid for the minimum amount, and since it was my first time to have a credit card, I wasn't aware that it would earn interest on the following month.

Until one day, that I can no longer pay for my debts and had no choice but to cancel the card, and to make things worse, it was my family who helped me pay for my debts. I was so ashamed of myself. I realized that when they needed me financially I was not there for them but when the time came when I was the one who need help they did not hesitate to give me a helping hand. I have learned so much since then and I strived so hard not to make the same mistakes again. I had learned to chose which things are to be prioritized and which should be neglected.

The invisible tree house hotel

This is an incredible concept design by Tham & Videgard Hansson Arkitekter. This tree house/hotel room uses mirrored glass panels for walls and almost vanishes at a glance from the outside, but on the inside the guest is given a 360 degree view of the trees outside.

The Smallest House In The World

Jay Shafer owns of the smallest house in the world. Jay is an artist and architect, who lives in his home near San Francisco. Jay has been living in a house smaller than some people’s closets since 1997.

Jay’s decision to inhabit just 96 square feet arose from his concerns he had about the impact a larger house would have on the environment, and because he does not want to maintain a lot of unused or unusable space.

Vicks Vaporub may be harmful for infants

I usually put Vaporub on my chest whenever I have a cold since it makes me feel relieved after using it. But I have recently heard that Vicks Vaporub is harmful to your health since it increases mucus production by 59% and it reduces the nose's ability to clear mucus by 36%.

It can actually restrict breathing for infants and toddlers as well. There was a study by the doctors at Wake Forest University which revealed that direct application of Vicks VapoRub on the nose can cause airway inflammation and respiratory distress for children. I'm glad I didn't use this with my son since he was a G6PD positive in his new born screening and one of the things which must be avoided was Mentol.

David Bernens of Proctor and Gamble did confirm that Vicks VapoRub is still safe, given that it is applied properly—specifically not under the nose. Still, pediatricians discourage parents from using Vicks and other over-the-counter cold medicines for children younger than 4.

"Previous research has failed to demonstrate any respiratory benefits of VapoRub.." Dr. Daniel Craven of the Children's Hospital in Cleveland. "Although the findings are somewhat limited, this study raises the possibility that this product may not just be ineffective, [it] might have adverse respiratory consequences."
